White plays to three different squares on the a1-h8 diagonal, threatening mate by the wGa1 moving to a square just past the bishop. The black move one defences remove potential defences which White can take advantage of. After 1...Gb1, 2...Ge6! is no longer possible. After 1...b4, 2...Gb4! is not a move and 1...Gb4 stops 2...Gh7!
