In each solution a black piece moves to interfere with another black piece. White’s moves in each solution are differently motivated – in (a) to avoid a pin of the mating piece and in (b) to shield the white king from an upcoming check. This difference is one flaw. Another flaw is the lack of any great interplay between Black and White.
