In each solution a black G goes to a square on which it is used as a hurdle by White’s mating move. One white G sacrifices itself for self-block while the other one mates. WinChloe opines that this problem illustrates the Zilahi theme, and I suppose it does, though I knew nothing of such a theme in 1992.
