The key is not check, as after capture, the king would reappear on g2, which is empty. The black King cannot move, as all his flight squares are attacked and their rebirth squares are all occupied. The defences are all self-blocks allowing White to vacate a now unneeded rebirth square to occupy the rebirth square of the black King, which, with his rebirth square so occupied, is mated.
