Other – Links

It has been more than a decade since I last believed what my government and the mainstream media were telling me. The conspiracy theory about the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was the final straw. The following list of links comprises mostly alternative news sites that I use to keep up with what is happening in the World. Of course, I listen to the BBC Radio news also, so I hope I get a good broad view of things.

Alternative Radio

A well-established independent views website run by journalist David Barsamian. You can subscribe to podcasts of interviews from this site which feature those whom the establishment does not welcome on the corporate-controlled media.

Yes, this independent website doesn’t like war and publishes informed articles by many independent journalists. By reading these you will learn much about the world that won't be broadcast on ‘mainstream media’. Of particular interest are the informed radio interviews of informed journalists by Scott Horton. I know of nobody who has a greater knowledge of what’s actually happening in the war zones of the World. His radio presentation skills are not of the best, but I for one can forgive him that as I always learn something from his interviews.

Craig Murray's blog

Craig Murray was the UK ambassador to Uzbekistan until he started reporting home that the Uzbekistan government was torturing dissidents to provide intelligence for the ‘War on Terror’. His views are robust and sometimes expressed in non-diplomatic terms, but his insights are always valuable, coming as they do from someone with considerable experience of the real world.

Democracy Now!

This weekday independent news program is broadcast over the Internet and on many independent radio stations in the USA. Host Amy Goodman is a leading and well-respected independent journalist.

John Pilger

The website of the veteran campaigning journalist who seeks to highlight the plight of oppressed people throughout the World. His reports and documentary films are too embarrassing to governments and big corporations to be broadcast by the mainstream media.

A libertarian-themed news and views website hosted by Lew Rockwell, probably the USA’s most famous libertarian. He's probably infamous though to the state that he hates and a thorn in their flesh.

Lustig's Letter

For radio listeners, the name Robin Lustig will be familiar. For many years, up to the end of 2012, he presented ‘Newshour’ on the BBC World Service and ‘The World Tonight’ on BBC Radio 4. His retirement from the BBC means that he can now express an opinion and he does so in this blog. Always informative and worth reading.

Media Lens

An independent organisation that keeps an eye on the corporate, mainstream media and calls them out on their deceptions and hypocrisies.

Neil Clark's blog

This site describes itself as, “An anti-war, anti-neo-conservative blog to counter the lies of those who wish to condemn us to perpetual conflict.”

Stop, You’re Killing Me!

An amazing website for lovers of mystery, crime, thriller, spy, and suspense books. They list over 4800 authors, with chronological lists of their books (over 55,000 titles), both series (5700+) and non-series. There are alphabetical author and character links and special indexes.

The Intercept

A news and views website founded by Glenn Greenwald, the independent journalist to whom Edward Snowdon leaked all that material. He and his colleagues highlight the various deceptions and hypocrisies meted out by the governments of the West and the media that they and the big corporations control.

An American independent news website. Of particular interest are the regular articles by the outstanding and compassionate journalist Chris Hedges.

Developed and maintained by Brian Stephenson.
Implemented with HTML5, MySQL, Perl (with, inter alia, CGI::Simple, HTML::Template & XML::LibXML) & CSS/Javascript (jQuery, Bootstrap & DataTables).
